NEW FOR 2009:
- Standard Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and fog lights
- Optional navigation system receives software updates
- Optional dual screen rear entertainment system enhanced
Completely redesigned for 2008, the Volvo V70 wagon is unchanged for 2009, save for the addition of Bluetooth and fog lights to its list of standard features. The optional navigation system is updated with Real Time Traffic updates, and in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, and in Vancouver in late 2008, is better able to avoid traffic by customizing the drive route around known obstructions that have been digitally transmitted to the system's receiver. The optional dual screen rear entertainment system now has larger screens, better visibility and folding wireless headphones.
Available in a single trim line, the V70 uses a 3.2-litre inline six-cylinder engine, mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.
Features include 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, front and rear fog lights, headlight washers, 40/20/40 split-folding rear seatbacks, heated seats with T-Tec upholstery, power driver's seat adjustment, aluminum cargo rails, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, cruise control, cargo cover, outside temperature gauge, auto up/down on all windows, heated mirrors with puddle lights, tilt and telescopic wheel with audio controls, trip computer, variable intermittent wipers, and CD stereo.
Available options include a Premium Package of leather seats, retractable mirrors, power rear-door child locks and power passenger seat; Luxury Package of Four-C active chassis, dual Xenon Active Bending Headlights, front and rear parking assist, rain sensor, and either heated rear seats or dual-stage integrated booster cushions; a Convenience Package of 12-volt outlet in the luggage area, garage door opener, compass, speed-sensitive steering, grocery bag holder, humidity sensor, power-operated tailgate, cargo privacy lock, sunglass holder, mass movement sensor and level sensor; and the DynAudio Package with six-CD Dolby Pro Logic II Surround Sound stereo and Sirius Satellite Radio. Stand-alone options include a sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels, and Blind Spot Information System, Collision Avoidance Package and Personal Car Communicator.
Roomy and comfortable, the V70 is nicely styled, handles very well, and swallows cargo like an SUV. Numerous safety options are available, including a Personal Car Communicator that can warn of an intruder in the vehicle by detecting a heartbeat, and the Blind Spot Information System, which alerts the driver to vehicles alongside. Volvo also claims a world first with its two-stage integrated child booster seat, which looks and acts like a regular second-row seat cushion, but can be lifted up into one of two heights so that children can look out the window and still be in a safe position for the seatbelt.
