For 2008, the Volvo V70 wagon has been redesigned into its third generation. The new model is larger and features more interior room and improved driving performance; it will be launched in a single model, in front-wheel drive. Among its innovations is a world-first height-adjustable integrated child booster cushion installed in both outer rear seats; the cushions can be set at two heights, allowing children of different sizes to see out the windows while ensuring the best possible position to benefit from their seatbelts in the event of a collision.
Other safety features include an improved side impact protection system with more collision protection through the application of four kinds of steel in the body structure, dual-chamber front-seat side airbags, and curtain airbags that are now 60 mm longer. Also available is a Personal Car Communicator; within 100 metres, the key fob communicates with the vehicle to determine if the alarm has gone off or if there is an intruder in the car.
All three rear seats fold independently, as does the front passenger seat, for more accommodation of different cargo sizes. Available options include a power tailgate and sliding load floor.
The V70 uses a 3.2-litre inline six-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.
Features include 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear fog light, headlamp washers, heated mirrors, 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat, heated cloth and T-Tec seats with power driver adjustment, leather-wrapped tilt and telescopic steering wheel, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, cruise control, electric parking brake, front and rear reading lamps, cargo cover, floor mats, outside temperature gauge, auto up/down express on all windows, intermittent front and rear wipers, trip computer and CD stereo.
Available options include adaptive cruise control with collision warning, blind spot information system, active bi-Xenon headlamps, speed-sensitive steering, leather seats, rain-sensing wipers, navigation system, premium six-CD stereo and dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system.
