For 2011, the Volvo S40 sedan slims down to a single model, with three trim lines. The naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre five-cylinder is discontinued, as is the T5’s manual transmission. All models are now front-wheel drive only. There are new trim lines, with added items to the Level II and R-Design packages, along with a redesign of the sunroof deflector and a change in speaker manufacturer, with no change in speaker performance.
The S40 comes as the T5, with turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine and five-speed automatic transmission. It is also available as a station wagon, called the V50.
Features on the Level I include 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, cloth seats, exterior temperature gauge, locking glovebox, keyless entry, power rear-door child locks, auto-dimming rearview mirror, cruise control, illuminated vanity mirrors, Bluetooth connectivity, CD/MP3 stereo with steering wheel-mounted controls, floor mats, and rear fog light.
The Level II adds 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, heated seats, garage door opener, puddle lamps, compass, trip computer, high-performance sound system, auxiliary input, iPod interface, aluminum interior trim, front fog lights, headlamp washers, and power sunroof.
The R-Design adds power-adjustable heated two-tone leather driver and passenger seats, driver’s side memory, R-Design aluminum-accented steering wheel, sport pedals, and body styling kit.
