The largest SUV in Volkswagen's range in Canada, the Touareg goes into the 2014 model year with some additional equipment and options packages to suit different tastes. For those looking to haul a trailer, all models now come standard with a towing package. However, if you are looking for a bit more excitement from your drive, a new R-Line Package with sport suspension is available on Highline and Execline models. Unfortunately, the Easy Open power tailgate -- now standard on Highline/Execline -- is incompatible with the R-Line Package.
The Touareg is available with two engines -- a 3.6L gasoline V6 engine (280 hp, 266 lb-ft) and a 3.0L turbodiesel V6 (240 hp, 406 lb-ft). Both are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox paired with 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
Three trims are available: Comfortline, Highline, and Execline.
Features on the Comfortline include 18-inch Tacora alloy wheels, 60/40 split-folding/sliding rear seats with centre armrest/pass-through/recline, 8-way power adjustable front seats with adjustable lumbar support, auto-dimming interior mirror, automatic headlights with ?coming home? feature, auxiliary power outlets (four 12 V and one 115 V), Bluetooth Mobile Phone Connectivity, Climatronic dual-zone electronic climate control, cruise control, digital compass, airbags (front, front seat, side curtain), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), front fog lights, halogen headlights, heated front seats and washer nozzles, interior lighting package, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and shift knob, Media Device Interface (MDI) with iPod connectivity, multifunction trip computer and indicator, power heated exterior mirrors, power tailgate, privacy glass, rain sensor with automatic wiper speed control, rearview camera, RNS 850 navigation system (touchscreen with 60 GB hard drive), silver roof rails, satellite radio, TPMS, and towing hitch (pin adapter, ball mount and ball not included).
Sport Package adds 20-inch Pikes Peak alloy wheels, Bi-Xenon headlights with LED signature DRL and Adaptive Front-light System (AFS), and sport suspension.
Highline adds (to Comfortline) 12-way power adjustable front seats with power lumbar support, Bi-Xenon headlights with Adaptive Front-light System (AFS), centre armrest (2-piece slideable), Easy Open power tailgate, Genuine Burr Walnut wood inserts, heated steering wheel, HomeLink garage door opener, KESSY keyless access with push-button start, LED signature DRL, leather seating surfaces, memory for driver seat and exterior mirrors, panoramic power sunroof, and power rear seat backrest release.
Execline adds 20-inch Pikes Peak alloy wheels, comfort-opening cargo cover, Dynaudio?? 620-watt digital sound package with 12 speakers, heatable rear seats, LED tail lights, manual rear sunshades, Park Distance Control (PDC), and power adjustable steering wheel with memory.
R-Line Package adds (to Highline/Execline) 20-inch Mallory alloy wheels, aluminum interior trim, chromed oval tailpipes, R-Line rear spoiler, R-Line sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, R-Line aluminum door sills, R-Line exterior design package (front and rear bumpers and side skirts), R-Line exterior badging, stainless sport pedals, and sport suspension; removes Easy Open function from power tailgate.
