For 2009, the Volkswagen Passat lineup has some major changes. First is the addition of the Passat CC, a four-door sedan with coupe-like styling. The regular Passat Sedan remains, but the 3.6-litre V6 with 4Motion available for 2008 has been discontinued, and the engine is only available in the CC and Wagon. The available Technology Package adds satellite navigation, media device interface, Dynaudio premium stereo and Sirius satellite radio.
The Passat Sedan now uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed automatic with manual shift mode. The 2.0-litre engine and transmission choices are also available in the Passat CC and Wagon, but both can also be ordered with a 3.6-litre V6 with six-speed automatic and manual shift mode, exclusively in 4Motion all-wheel drive.
Trim lines on the Sedan and Wagon 2.0 are the Trendline, Comfortline and Highline, while the Wagon comes in Comfortline and Highline, and the CC comes in Sportline, Highline and Highline V6.

Although the Passat Sedan is no longer available with a V6 or all-wheel drive, buyers still have plenty of choices, including the practical wagon, and the stunningly styled Passat CC. All offer smooth and powerful engines, well-fitted transmissions, and good exterior and interior fit, although they can get expensive in the top-of-the-line models. Still, to many eyes, the Passat CC is as lovely as Mercedes-Benz's CLS-Class, and at a fraction of the price.
