NEW FOR 2009:
- City Jetta adds standard 16-inch steel wheels and optional 16-inch alloy wheels
For 2009, the Volkswagen City Golf and City Jetta are unchanged, save for 16-inch wheels on the Jetta version, up from the previous 15-inch wheels.
Originally introduced for 2007 as inexpensive carryover models when the Jetta and Golf (Rabbit) were redesigned, the City models are sold only in Canada.
Both models use a 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder engine, mated to a five-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. Each comes in a single trim line. The Jetta is a four-door sedan, while the Golf is a four-door hatchback.
Features on the City Golf include 15-inch steel wheels, variable intermittent wipers, rear washer/wiper, 12-volt power outlet, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input and USB connector, manual seat adjustment, tilt and telescopic wheel, and power windows with front auto up/down.
The City Jetta adds 16-inch steel wheels, chrome grille, anti-theft alarm, power locks with keyless entry, and two 12-volt power outlets.
Available options on both models include air conditioning, power sunroof, alloy wheels, cruise control, side and curtain airbags, electronic stability control, and heated seats.
The City models are very basic, but they're inexpensive for the brand, with the same roominess and comfort of the original models upon which they're based. The 2.0-litre has been around for a while, but it does the job, and the available six-speed is rare in this price segment. If you've always wanted a Volkswagen, it doesn't get any more affordable than this.
