History/Overview
Toyota’s most substantial vehicle is the Sequoia, a full-size SUV based on a platform shared with the Tundra pickup truck. This big utility gets rare updates: it enjoyed a styling refresh in 2018, but its basic makeup dates back to a design that arrived in 2007.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
There are no changes to the Sequoia for 2022.
Available Trims
Toyota offers its largest SUV in Limited, Platinum, and TRD Pro trim levels. Common to all is a 5.7L V8 engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive.
Standard Features
Limited comes equipped with push-button start, remote engine start, a garage door remote, passive keyless entry, a power tailgate, and a 12-speaker stereo with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and 7.0-inch touchscreen controls. You also get power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, a power-folding third row, three-zone automatic A/C, power-adjustable steering, auto-dimming mirror, and 20-inch wheels. Rounding out the list are LED headlights, a sunroof, black grille, and power/heated side mirrors with auto reverse tilt.
Limited trim’s standard safety features include blind spot monitoring, automatic high beams, lane departure alert, tire pressure monitoring, radar cruise control, and forward collision detection with automatic braking.
Platinum trim adds navigation, a 14-speaker stereo, rear-seat entertainment system, adaptive variable suspension with rear auto-levelling, heated rear seats, perforated leather, wood/leather-trimmed shift lever, running boards, and a chrome grille.
TRD Pro deletes the rear-seat entertainment suite, 20-inch wheels, power steering column, and leather seating, and adds Fox-branded shocks, sliding sun visors with lighted mirrors, and 18-inch wheels.
Fuel Economy
Toyota’s fuel consumption estimates for the Sequoia are 18.5/13.9 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Sequoia is Toyota’s entry in a full-size SUV field dominated by the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Ford Expedition. The only other import in this class is the Nissan Armada.
