For 2010, the Toyota Sequoia receives a new 4.6-litre V8 engine with six-speed automatic transmission that delivers more power than the 4.7-litre V8 it replaces, but with improved fuel economy. All models receive new standard features, including two front knee airbags. The SR5 trim line, previously available with a choice of engines, now comes only with the 4.6-litre V8, which receives new standard features.
Based on the Toyota Tundra, which also receives the new 4.6-litre for 2010, the Sequoia uses a 4.6-litre V8 or 5.7-litre V8, both with six-speed automatic. All models use a part-time four-wheel drive system and feature three rows of seats. The 4.6-litre comes as the SR5; the 5.7-litre trim lines are the Limited and Platinum.
Features on the SR5 include 18-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone automatic climate control, CD/MP3 stereo with wheel-mounted controls, USB and auxiliary input, XM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, heated leather seats with ten-way driver and four-way passenger power adjustment, 40/20/40 split-folding second-row bench, 60/40 power-fold-flat third-row seat, power locks with keyless entry, power windows, power tailgate window, dual vanity mirrors, conversation mirror, auto-dimming rearview mirror with integrated backup camera and compass, tilt and telescopic leather-wrapped wheel, floor mats, cruise control, garage door opener, front and rear clearance sonar, driver and passenger knee airbags, anti-theft system, tire pressure monitoring system, front tow hook, rear privacy glass, power sunroof, roof rails with crossbars, front and rear splash guards, towing hitch, heated mirrors, variable intermittent wipers with de-icer, intermittent rear wiper, fog lamps, and automatic headlamps with washers.
The Limited adds 20-inch alloy wheels, six-CD/MP3 stereo, driver's side memory, power tailgate, Optitron gauges, dual illuminated vanity mirrors, rear sunshade, chrome door handles, rear spoiler, and power-folding, auto-dimming mirrors with integrated turn signals, puddle lamps, memory and reverse auto tilt.
The Platinum adds four-CD/MP3 stereo, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, perforated heated and ventilated leather seats, middle-row heated captain chairs, auto-dimming rearview mirror with integrated compass, power tilt and telescopic wheel, woodgrain trim, dynamic laser cruise control, second-row centre console, XM Real-Time Traffic capability, DVD-based navigation screen with backup camera, and 115-volt power outlet.
More nimble than its size would suggest, the Sequoia now offers an improved engine, but puts it in a well-equipped package so that buyers don't have to move up to the larger displacement in order to get all the extra features. The Platinum's navigation system, 115-volt outlet and rear-seat DVD can also be added to the Limited model for an extra $4,300.
