- V6 dropped, new six-speed auto for four-cylinder.
It may not be a vehicle worth getting excited about, but the Toyota RAV4 is certainly noteworthy, particularly for 2013, as it has been redesigned into its fourth generation. The V6 engine is gone, so, like its Honda CR-V competitor, it is now a four-cylinder-only proposition. That's fine, because it's a good one, and will seem even better now that it's mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Toyota claims cargo space and airbag count (eight) are both class-leading; this redesign also brings a slew of other available safety kit that wasn't offered before.
The RAV4 comes with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder and six-speed automatic in two- or four-wheel drive. Trim lines are FWD LE, FWD XLE, AWD LE, AWD XLE, and AWD Limited.
Features on LE trim include 17-inch steel wheels, four-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA audio with auxiliary and USB input, Bluetooth capability, air conditioning, 60/40 split/fold rear seat, power locks, power windows with driver auto-down, outside temperature gauge, fuel economy meter, tilt/telescopic steering with Bluetooth and audio controls, carpeted and all-season floor mats, cruise control, map lights, keyless entry, rear spoiler, body colour mirrors, power heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, and airbags (front, front seat, side curtain, driver's knee, front passenger seat cushion). AWD models also get an automatic transmission fluid warning indicator.
XLE trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, 6.1-inch display audio system with six speakers, dual zone automatic climate control, heated front sport seats, driver window auto-up/down, backup camera, tonneau cover, rear privacy glass, silver-painted roof rails, body colour door handles, moonroof, variable intermittent wipers, fog lights, and vehicle anti-theft system.
Limited trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, SofTex-trimmed seats, power 8-way driver seat, auto-dimming rear view mirror, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, chrome inner door handles, cargo net, push button start, smart key system, power liftgate, and automatic headlights.
