NEW FOR 2010:
- Redesigned model
- Standard electronic stability control
For 2010, the Toyota Prius hybrid has been redesigned and is now in its third generation. Its Hybrid Synergy Drive system is 90 per cent newly developed, with 22 per cent more power over the previous model but with a seven per cent improvement in fuel consumption. The previous 1.5-litre four-cylinder gasoline engine has been replaced with a 1.8-litre engine.
The new model also adds more rear-seat legroom, new styling, and several new features, including four driving modes, an available solar-powered ventilation fan, wheel-mounted control buttons that activate duplicate images on the instrument panel, and Toyota's first use of Intelligent Parking Assist.
The Prius uses a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine, combined with the Hybrid Synergy Drive hybrid system and nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery, and continuously variable transmission (CVT).
In addition to Standard Mode, the Prius can also be programmed into EV-Drive Mode, allowing battery-only driving at low speeds for about 1.6 km in certain conditions; Power Mode, which increases throttle input sensitivity for a sportier feel; and Eco Mode, which helps the driver achieve better fuel economy.
It comes in a single trim line, with available option packages. Standard features include 15-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, satellite radio pre-wiring, cloth seats, 60/40 split-folding rear seatbacks, power locks with keyless entry and driver's door touch unlock sensor, pushbutton start, auto up/down windows, exterior temperature gauge, Eco Drive monitor with fuel economy gauge, illuminated vanity mirrors, tilt and telescopic wheel with "Touch Tracer" controls, floor mats, cargo cover, map lights, driver's knee airbag, active front head restraints, LED brake lamps, heated mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, intermittent rear wiper, automatic headlamps, and tire pressure monitoring system.
The Premium Package adds a JBL Audio six-CD stereo, Bluetooth connectivity, XM satellite radio, integrated garage door opener, auto-dimming rearview mirror with backup camera, foot well lighting, and passenger front door touch unlock sensor.
The Premium Package with Solar Panels includes the Premium Package features and adds a power sunroof with solar panels that operate a ventilation fan while the car is parked, along with remote air conditioning.
The Technology Package builds on the Premium Package with Solar Panels, and adds voice-activated DVD navigation system with integrated backup camera, pre-collision system, driver's seat lumbar support, heated leather seats, water-repellent front door glass, dynamic radar cruise control, Intelligent Parking Assist, leather-wrapped steering wheel, front illuminated door sill trim, and rear bumper protection.
The Touring Package includes the Premium Package features, and adds 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, auto-levelling LED headlamps with washers, and rear bumper protection.
