NEW FOR 2010:
- Vehicle stability control and traction control standard equipment on XR and AWD; added to the optional Touring Package for the base model
- New optional Sport Package with Navigation for XR and AWD
Completely redesigned for 2009, the Toyota Matrix enters 2010 with vehicle stability control and traction control, previously optional on all models, now standard on XR and AWD models, as well as an addition to the Touring Package option on the base model. A new Sport Package with Navigation adds a DVD-based navigation system, power sunroof, fog lamps, and sporty styling touches.
A sister vehicle to the Pontiac Vibe, the Toyota Matrix shares its platform and engines with the Corolla. Unlike the global Corolla, the Matrix is sold only in North America, and is built exclusively in Canada.
Two engines are available: a 1.8-litre four-cylinder in the base Matrix, and a 2.4-litre four-cylinder in the XR, XRS and AWD. All use a five-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic transmission, except for the AWD model, which uses a four-speed automatic only.
Features on the base Matrix include 16-inch steel wheels, heated power mirrors, front and rear splash guards, fixed intermittent wipers, intermittent rear washer/wiper, driver's seat height adjustment, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input and four speakers, Optitron electronic gauges, dual vanity mirrors, tilt and telescopic wheel, tonneau cover, dual vanity mirrors, floor mats, digital clock, and illuminated entry.
The XR adds air conditioning, folding front passenger seat, six speakers, cruise control, power locks with keyless entry, power windows, rear bumper protector, body-colour mirrors and door handles, and variable intermittent wipers.
The XRS adds 18-inch alloy wheels, power sunroof, chrome exhaust tip, front and rear underbody spoilers, roof spoiler, fog lamps, sport fabric seat upholstery, premium six-CD/MP3 stereo, Bluetooth connectivity, XM satellite radio, 115-volt power outlet, leather-wrapped wheel with audio controls, and auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass.
The AWD model is outfitted similarly to the XR, but adds roof rails and crossbars, and has fixed intermittent washers and four stereo speakers.
