History/Overview
This is the third year in Canada for Tesla’s Model Y compact crossover model. While the company surely thought a smaller, more affordable crossover than the showy Model X would be a grand slam, it has surprisingly proven less popular than the brand’s other compact model, the Model 3 sedan.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
This year, Tesla has updated the Model Y’s touchscreen interfaces, and last year’s Standard Range model is gone along with its relatively affordable starting price.
Available Trims
Tesla offers the 2022 Model Y in Long Range and Performance variants, both of which are powered by a dual-motor, AWD powertrain. You can fit the interior with five seats in two rows, or seven seats in three rows.
Standard Features
The Model Y Long Range comes with 19-inch wheels, a glass roof, a 15-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, all-vegan upholstery and interior materials, and a 13-speaker stereo. You also get power-adjustable front seats, heated front/rear seats, a heated steering wheel, LED fog lights, power-folding/auto-dimming side mirrors, and navigation.
Key Options
You can add a premium package that brings live traffic data, satellite maps, video/music streaming, and an internet browser. Also available is the Autopilot suite, which bundles a number of driver assist functions.
Fuel Economy
Tesla’s energy consumption estimates are 1.9/2.0 Le/100 km (city/highway) for the Model Y Long Range, and 2.0/2.2 Le/100 km for Performance models.
Competition
Cross-shop the Model Y against the Jaguar I-Pace, Volvo XC40 Recharge, BMW iX, the Audi Q4 e-tron, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
