NEW FOR 2015:
- Redesigned model
Nearly 20 years in, Subaru's Outback remains, at its core, a wagon version of the Legacy sedan with a lifted suspension. Along with the Legacy, it's been redesigned for 2015, taking it into its fifth generation.
Under the new skin, you'll find familiar mechanicals: a 2.5L boxer four (175 hp/174 lb-ft of torque) powers 2.5i models, while a 3.6L boxer six-cylinder (256 hp/247 lb-ft) is used in 3.6R trims. A six-speed manual transmission is standard in two 2.5L trims; a continuously variable automatic (CVT) is optional in those two, and standard across the rest of the line. And naturally, Subaru's “symmetrical” all-wheel drive system is included in all models.
Trim levels include 2.5i (manual or automatic), 2.5i PZEV, 2.5i Touring (manual or automatic), 2.5i Limited, 3.6R Touring and 3.6R Limited. 2.5i Touring, 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited models can be optioned with a technology package that includes the brand's EyeSight suite of driver's aids.
2.5i models come with four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, brake assist and electronic brake force distribution, electric parking brake, hill holder, brake override, backup camera, fog lights, one-touch turn signals, satellite radio, 10-way power driver's seat, active grille shutter, active torque vectoring, height-and-tilt-adjustable front headrests, 17-inch steel wheels with covers, power-adjustable heated side mirrors with body-coloured housings and manual fold feature, auto on/off headlights, four-speaker stereo with 6.2-inch touchscreen display, auxiliary input, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, Bluetooth with audio streaming, iPod USB integration, tilt-and-telescopic steering adjustment, cruise control, power windows with driver and front passenger auto up/down, heated front seats, reclining rear seats with one-touch flat-folding function, and cloth upholstery.
2.5i CVT models add steering wheel shift paddles and upgraded AWD system with electronic multi-plate transfer clutch.
2.5i PZEV trim adds emissions control equipment and special badging.
2.5i Touring models add alloy wheels, sunroof, windshield wiper deicer, power tailgate, electro-luminescent gauges with colour information display, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, six-speaker stereo, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear/side vehicle detection system, side mirrors with turn signal repeaters and auto dimming side and rearview mirrors.
2.5i Limited trim includes 18-inch alloy wheels, navigation with seven-inch capacitive touchscreen, 12-speaker stereo with text messaging capability, subwoofer and amplifier, voice-activated climate control, Homelink, upgraded interior trim, driver's seat memory and four-way power front passenger seat, leather seating surfaces, Xenon headlights, heated rear seats and rear climate control vents.
To Touring and Limited trims, the Tech option package adds EyeSight (pre-collision braking, brake assist and throttle management, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane sway warning and lead vehicle start alert), intelligent keyless entry, steering-responsive fog lights and a five-inch multi-function trip computer.
3.6R Touring and Limited trims are similar to the respective 2.5i models, and the same Tech package can be added to each.
