Following an extensive mid-cycle update for 2014, the Subaru Outback carries on into 2014 with minor changes. Last year, Subaru made its EyeSight safety system to 3.6R Limited models, and this year, it's available for the first time in a four-cylinder model, the 2.5i Limited.
Engine choices include a 2.5L boxer four-cylinder (173 hp/174 lb-ft), and a 3.6L boxer six (256 hp/247 lb-ft). The base tranmission is a six-speed manual, and a CVT is the option in four-cylinder models; six-cylinder Outbacks use a 5-speed automatic. All-wheel is standard across the line.
Trim levels include 2.5i Convenience (manual or CVT), 2.5i Convenience PZEV (CVT), 2.5i Touring (manual or CVT), 2.5i Limited (CVT), 3.6R and 3.6R Limited (automatic). Both Limited trims can be optioned with the EyeSight system.
2.5i Convenience models get stability and traction control, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, electronic brake force distribution and brake assist, brake override system, electric parking brake, six airbags, whiplash-reducing front seats with height-adjustable head restraints, 17-inch alloy wheels, splash guards, heated, power-adjustable and manually-foldable side mirrors with body-colour housings, automatic headlights, fog lights, roof rails with integrated cross bars, privacy tinted glass on rear doors and cargo area, air conditioning, four-speaker stereo, iPod/USB integration, Bluetooth with streaming audio and voice activation, low oil and windshield washer fluid indicators, power windows with driver's auto-down, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, heated front seats, 10-way power driver's seat with lumbar, 60/40 split folding rear seats, cloth upholstery, and retractable cargo cover.
The 2.5i Convenience PZEV model gets special emissions control equipment and unique badging.
2.5i Touring models add windshield wiper de-icer, sunroof, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, cargo area tray, six-speaker stereo and automatic climate control.
2.5i Limited trim gets unique 17-inch wheels, satellite radio, voice-activated navigation with seven-inch touchscreen, text messaging capability, backup camera, nine-speaker stereo with subwoofer and amplifier, auto-dimming rearview mirror, Homelink, auto up/down driver's window, electro-luminescent gauges with colour information display, four-way power front passenger seat, woodgrain interior trim, brushed aluminum front door sills, and leather seats.
Standard kit in the 3.6R is similar to that of 2.5i Touring, but adds dual exhaust tips. 3.6R Limited models add the same features as 2.5i Limited.
The EyeSight package, available in Limited models, adds pre-collision braking, brake assist and throttle management, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane sway warning and lead vehicle start alert.
