NEW FOR 2010:
- All-new model
For 2010, the Subaru Outback is redesigned into its fourth generation, featuring an all-new platform, longer wheelbase, more interior room, new and revised engines, and new styling.
New features include a new double-wishbone rear suspension, standard vehicle stability control on all models, raised-profile roof rails with integrated swing-in-place crossbars, and available navigation system.
Two engines are available, both of them horizontally-opposed "boxer" configuration: a revised 170-horsepower 2.5-litre four-cylinder in the 2.5i, and new 256-horsepower 3.6-litre six-cylinder in the 3.6R models. The 2.5i is available as a PZEV (Partial Zero Emission Vehicle), with emissions that are up to 90 per cent cleaner than a conventional vehicle. Transmission choices are a six-speed manual or optional Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the 2.5i; the CVT in the 2.5i Limited; and five-speed automatic with manual shift mode in the 3.6R.
All use Subaru's symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive system, but with different configurations. The 2.5i and PZEV models with six-speed manual transmission use a viscous-coupling limited-slip centre differential that distributes power 50/50 front to rear. The 2.5i and PZEV models with CVT use an electronically-controlled multi-plate transfer clutch that distributes power 60/40 in dry conditions, and 50/50 on slippery surfaces. The 3.6R models use Variable Torque Distribution that employs an electro-mechanical centre differential that distributes power 45/55 on dry roads, and 50/50 on slippery ones.
Features on the Outback PZEV include 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, roof rails with integrated crossbars, fog lights, privacy glass, heated seats, 60/40 split-folding and reclining rear seat with armrest, three-spoke steering wheel with audio controls, cruise control, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input jack, ambient overhead console lighting, information display, exterior temperature gauge, power driver's seat, cargo cover, power locks with keyless entry, power mirrors, power windows with driver's auto up/down, rear washer/wiper, and tilt and telescopic wheel. It is the only model with PZEV emission control.
The 2.5i Sport adds power sunroof, wiper de-icer, cargo area tray, auto-dimming mirror with compass, leather-wrapped wheel, USB/iPod media hub, Sirius satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity.
The 2.5i Limited Package adds dual-zone automatic climate control, power passenger seat, leather upholstery, woodgrain trim, and six-CD/MP3 premium stereo with nine Harman Kardon speakers.
The 3.6R builds on the 2.5i Sport and adds heated seats.
The 3.6R Limited adds dual-zone automatic climate control, power passenger seat, leather upholstery, woodgrain trim, and six-CD/MP3 premium stereo with nine Harman Kardon speakers.
The 2.5i and 3.6R Limited models can be optioned with a Multimedia package of CD/DVD player, voice-activated GPS navigation, backup camera, voice-activated Bluetooth, and streaming Bluetooth audio.
