NEW FOR 2015:
- Redesigned model
Subaru's Legacy stands out in the mid-size sedan class for being the only car in the category to come with standard all-wheel drive. For 2015, the design surrounding that AWD system is brand new, as the car enters its sixth generation.
The look is new, but the mechanicals are familiar: the base engine is a 2.5L four-cylinder boxer (175 hp/174 lb-ft of torque), while the upgrade is a 3.6L six-cylinder (256 hp/247 lb-ft). As with last year's model, a manual transmission is available in just a couple of trims, both of them with the four-cylinder engine.
Trims include 2.5i (manual or CVT), 2.5i PZEV, 2.5i Touring (manual or CVT), 2.5i Touring with technology package, 2.5i Limited, 2.5i Limited with technology package, 3.6R Touring, 3.6R Limited and 3.6R Limited with technology package.
2.5i models come with four-speaker stereo with 6.2-inch touchscreen display and auxiliary input, Bluetooth (with streaming audio function), iPod USB integration, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, satellite radio, four-wheel disc brakes with brake override, active torque vectoring, brake assist and electronic brake force distribution, electronic parking brake, hill holder, air conditioning, steering wheel-mounted cruise controls, tilt-and-telescopic steering adjustment, dual illuminated vanity mirrors, power windows with front auto up/down, electric and heatable side mirrors with body-colour housings and manual fold function, body-coloured door handles, automatic on/off headlights, 17-inch steel wheels with covers and a 3.5-inch multifunction trip computer.
2.5i PZEV trim includes low-emissions hardware and special PZEV badging.
Opt for Touring trim and you get alloy wheels, sunroof, windshield wiper de-icer, stainless steel exhaust tip, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, fog lights, six-speaker stereo, dual-zone climate control, rear/side vehicle detection system, side mirror-mounted turn signal repeaters and auto-dimming side and rearview mirrors.
Adding the CVT to 2.5i and Touring trims also brings paddle shifters and electronically-controlled centre multi-plate transfer clutch.
Touring models with the tech package option get EyeSight (pre-collision braking, brake assist and throttle management, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane sway warning and lead vehicle start alert), intelligent keyless entry, steering-responsive fog lights and a five-inch multi-function trip computer.
2.5i Limited models include 18-inch wheels, navigation, text messaging capability, 12-speaker stereo with subwoofer and 576-watt amplifier, electro-luminescent gauges with colour information display, voice-activated dual-zone automatic climate control, garage door opener, upgraded interior trim, four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, 10-way driver's seat with memory, leather seats, Stablex control dampers, Xenon headlights, heated rear seats and rear climate control vents.
The Limited with tech package includes the same extras as the Touring trim's.
3.6R Touring trim builds on 2.5i Touring, and adds the six-cylinder engine, CVT, larger front brakes and dual exhaust tips.
3.6R Limited models feature the same content as the 2.5i Limited; 3.6R Limited with tech package adds the same extras as it does in other trims.
