NEW FOR 2012: - Redesigned model For 2012, the Subaru Impreza is redesigned into its fourth generation. The new model features a longer wheelbase but with shorter overhangs, roomier interior and cargo area, and new and more fuel-efficient engine and CVT. Other changes include electric power steering, a driver’s knee airbag and whiplash-reducing front seats, new stereo and new wheel designs. The model comes as a four-door sedan or as a four-door hatchback, which the company calls a five-door. The Impreza uses a 2.0-litre horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine with five-speed manual transmission or optional continuously variable transmission (CVT). All models are all-wheel drive, but the type of system depends on the transmission. With the five-speed, the AWD has a viscous-coupling limited-slip centre differential that splits power 50/50 front to rear. With the CVT, the system uses an electronically-controlled multi-plate transfer clutch system (MPT) that actively manages the power split based on acceleration, deceleration and available traction. Both systems power all four wheels at all times. The stick shift includes a hill-hold function. Features on the Impreza 2.0i include 15-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, tilt and telescopic three-spoke steering wheel, height-adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40 split flat-folding rear seat, CD/MP3/WMA stereo with four speakers, floor mats, digital clock, exterior temperature gauge, eco fuel economy gauge, auto-off headlights, multi-function display, driver’s knee airbag, keyless entry, heated mirrors, power windows, variable intermittent wipers, and cruise control. The hatchback includes cargo tie-down hooks and rear washer/wiper. The Touring Package adds 16-inch alloy wheels, heated seats, windshield wiper de-icer, automatic headlights, chrome grille and interior door handles, Bluetooth connectivity, advanced audio system with six speakers, Media Hub for iPod/USB with Bluetooth streaming audio, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, rear stabilizer bar, and rear centre armrest with cupholders. The hatchback adds a cargo cover. If ordered on the Touring Package, the CVT includes paddle shifters. The Sport Package adds 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, power sunroof, 4.3-inch multifunction display, ground effects, rear spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, fog lights, upgraded instrumentation, and on the sedan, a stainless steel exhaust tip. The Limited adds dual-zone automatic climate control, Pioneer display audio system, Sirius satellite radio, xenon headlamps, leather upholstery, chrome trunk lid trim and exterior door handles, and mirror-integrated LED turn signals.
