History/Overview
The Subaru Crosstrek is a lynchpin of Canada’s popular subcompact crossover segment, combining capable off-road performance with a compact footprint that feels at home in the city and on the cottage trail.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
There are no changes to the Crosstrek for 2023; Subaru is preparing a redesigned model for launch as a 2024 model.
Available Trims
Subaru offers the Crosstrek in Convenience, Touring, Sport, Outdoor, and Limited trim levels. In most, power is from a 2.0L engine, while Outdoor and Limited get a 2.5L unit. All 2.0L cars start with a six-speed manual transmission that options to a continuously variable automatic (CVT); the CVT is standard with the larger engine in Outdoor and Limited.
Standard Features
Convenience trim starts with heated side mirrors, auto on/off headlights, LED taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, a four-speaker stereo, and A/C.
Touring adds LED fog lights, a front wiper de-icer, six-speaker audio, Starlink connected features, automatic climate control, a dash-mounted info display, heated front seats and steering wheel, and passive keyless entry.
Outdoor gets an 8.0-inch infotainment display, blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Sport gains adaptive LED headlights, a sunroof, and a power driver’s seat.
Limited adds 18-inch wheels, navigation, an eight-speaker stereo, dual-zone A/C, and leather upholstery.
Also, every Crosstrek with the CVT gets the EyeSight driver safety assist suite of adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, and forward collision mitigation; Sport with EyeSight and Limited models also get reverse collision avoidance braking.
Fuel Economy
Subaru’s fuel consumption estimates for the Crosstrek are 8.5/7.0 L/100 km (city/highway) with the 2.0L engine and CVT, and 8.8/7.0 L/100 km with the 2.5L/CVT combo. The 2.0L/6MT powertrain is rated for 10.5/8.1 L/100 km.
Competition
The Crosstrek’s competitors are numerous, and include the Kia Seltos, Buick Encore, Toyota Corolla Cross, Mitsubishi RVR, Honda HR-V, Nissan Qashqai, Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, Volkswagen Taos, Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer, Jeep Renegade, and Fiat 500X.
