NEW FOR 2014:
- New display audio system with 6.1-inch touchscreen.
Scion’s xD quietly exits stage left after this year 2014. Unlike the xB, the xD never really caught on despite an extensive standard equipment list, a decent stereo system, and a relatively humble pricetag.
The xD rides on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris, but it has slightly bigger and taller body with vaguely crossover styling cues. It offers a good deal more zip than the Yaris thanks to a standard 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with 128 hp. A five-speed manual is standard, while a four-speed automatic is optional. As you’d expect, the xD isn’t exactly the most thrilling of subcompact hatchbacks around, but that’s nothing a set of TRD coilovers, sway-bars, lightweight wheels and summer tires from the accessories catalogue couldn’t fix.
The xD comes in a single trim line. Features include 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, cloth sport bucket seats, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, cruise control, digital clock, all-season floor mats, vanity mirrors, outside temperature gauge, power locks with keyless entry, power windows with driver’s one-touch down, power port, tilt steering wheel with audio controls, chrome exhaust tip, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, variable intermittent wipers, rear washer/wiper, 6.1-inch display audio system, Bluetooth, auxiliary input, USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, active front head restraints, and tire pressure monitoring system.
Available factory- or dealer-installed options include 16-inch alloy wheels, hood deflector, rear spoiler, wheel locks, cargo mat and liner, heated leather seats, satellite radio, block heater, cargo cover, cargo net and security system.
