NEW FOR 2009:
- Standard Bluetooth hands-free connectivity
- Optional side assist steps in black with chrome-plated edge (dealer installation)
- Exterior colours: Diamond Silver Metallic and Desert Tan Metallic added; Titanium Metallic and Cocoa Metallic discontinued
For 2009, the Saab 9-7X undergoes only minor changes: Bluetooth hands-free connectivity is now standard, and chrome-edged side assist steps are available as a dealer-installed option.
A sibling to the Chevrolet Trailblazer and GMC Envoy, the 9-7X comes with a choice of three engines: a 4.2-litre inline six-cylinder in the 4.2i, a 5.3-litre V8 in the 5.3i, and a 6.0-litre V8 in the Aero. All use a four-speed automatic transmission and are all-wheel drive. The 5.3-litre includes Active Fuel Management, which shuts off half the cylinders under light load for improved fuel economy.
Features on the 4.2i include 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic xenon headlamps with washers, privacy glass, chrome roof rack side rails, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, front and rear intermittent wipers, woodgrain interior accents, cargo cover, cruise control, driver information centre, floor mats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, compass, power-adjustable pedals, power locks with keyless entry, power windows with front express-down, leather-wrapped wheel with audio controls, eight-way power heated leather seats, 65/35 split-folding rear seat, CD/MP3 stereo with XM satellite radio, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, 7-pin trailer connector with covered hitch receiver, fog lights, theft deterrent system, and OnStar with Turn by Turn Navigation plan.
The 5.3i is similarly equipped.
The Aero adds 20-inch alloy wheels and 4-pin trailer connector, and does not have headlamp washers.
Available options include a navigation system, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, and premium six-CD stereo.
Although it's based on a North American platform and built in Ohio, the 9-7X is trimmed to Saab specifications, and has sporty handling that's more in line with the brand's heritage. Its body-on-frame construction allows heavier-duty towing, for those who need a vehicle that can work as well as play. The identical features on the 4.2i and 5.3i mean that you don't need to opt for the larger engine to get more luxury.
