For 2009, the Saab 9-5 is unchanged, save for revisions to its power window switches. A limited-edition Griffin model adds unique styling cues and features such as auto-dimming mirrors and rear parking assist system.
The 9-5 is available as a four-door sedan or four-door SportCombi, the company's name for a station wagon. Both use a turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine. A five-speed manual transmission can be optioned to a five-speed automatic. Trim levels are the 9-5 and Aero.
Features on the 9-5 models include 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, fog lamps, headlamp washers, heated mirrors, power sunroof, variable intermittent wipers, Dark Walnut instrument panel, cruise control, floor mats, cooled and locking glovebox, driver information centre, auto-dimming rearview mirror, garage door opener, compass, illuminated vanity mirrors, power windows with front auto-down, heated leather seats with power adjustment and driver's side memory, heated 60/40 split-folding rear seat, six-CD Harman-Kardon stereo, XM satellite radio, keyless entry, and OnStar.
The Aero adds Tinted Chrome instrument panel, two-tone leather seats, and sport suspension.
Available options include xenon headlamps, rear parking assist, ventilated seats with perforated leather, and a navigation system.
Comfortable, well-built and attractive, the 9-5 offers a viable alternative to many higher-priced sports sedans, with crisp steering and a supple ride. The SportCombi retains the sedan's good looks, but with the functionality of extra cargo space. The limited-edition Griffin model pays tribute to Saab's aerospace heritage with its name and styling cues.
