The Saab 9-5 underwent a makeover in 2006, and so for 2007, changes are minimal: XM Satellite Radio is now standard, and there’s a new interior colour.
The 9-5 is available as a sedan or SportCombi wagon, both powered by a turbocharged 2.3-litre inline four-cylinder engine with five-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic transmission.
Both versions come standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, leather-wrapped sport wheel with audio controls, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable seats with driver’s side three-position memory, heated mirrors, express-down front windows, six-CD changer with XM Satellite Radio, split folding rear seat, keyless remote and automatic headlamps.
An available Sport Package offers a sport-tuned chassis, sport seats and metallic interior trim, while the Visibility Package adds Xenon headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and rear parking assist.
The 9-5 is often overlooked by enthusiasts because of its front-wheel drive configuration, but it’s a viable alternative to many higher-priced vehicles; it offers supportive seats, a supple ride, crisp steering and a decidedly European flair. The SportCombi adds the functionality of a nicely sized wagon while still retaining proportionately good looks. This is a comfortable, well-built and good-looking car.
