The Ram 4500 is for buyers who need to haul more than most, with very specialized needs. The 4500 isn't even offered with a bed. Instead, it comes with a cab and an empty rear frame. When you buy this truck, it's expected that you're going to take it to a specialist outfitter to have a special bed added on. Could be a manlift, a utility box, dump truck, or a flatbed for towing cars. Or just about anything you want, as long as you keep the truck's weight under 7,500 kg. That's a lot of weight.
But big cargo doesn't mean no amenities. The 4500 is available in ST, SLT, and Laramie trims, meaning you can make this work truck comfy. Regular and crew cabs are on the list, and they all come with dual rear wheels. Multiple wheelbase choices give as little as 60-inches from the back of the cab to the axle or as much as 120-inches of room.
Two engine choices are available, and both get two gearbox choices too. The 6.4L Hemi V8 comes with a choice of two six-speed automatics. It offers 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. Two versions of the 6.7L diesel offer320 or 325 hp and 650 or 750 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual and six-speed auto are available.
The ST is a work truck with vinyl floors and seats. It does have power windows and locks with cruise control and a USB charge port. So it's not entirely bare bones. Front and rear parking sensors are optional, as are a cloth front seat and twin alternators offering up to 440-amps. Up to 280L of fuel capacity is available. The SLT adds carpeted floors and a USB support for the audio system. It also has a trip computer and satellite radio. The same options as the ST are available, as are Uconnect infotainment systems with 5.0 and 7.8-inch screens.
The Laramie brings luxury to this work truck. Dual-zone climate control, a 7.0-inch full-colour in-dash info display, leather seats with heat and ventilation, and Uconnect 4C with 8.4-inch screen. The steering wheel is also heated and there is a 110-volt power plug.
Ram doesn't provide fuel economy estimates for these trucks. They aren't required because of their maximum weight.
