History/Overview
The Ram 3500 is the brand’s hardest-working consumer-grade truck, which verges on commercial capability with options like a chassis cab configuration. Ram completely redesigned the 3500 (along with the rest of its heavy-duty truck lineup) in 2019.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2020, there’s a Night Edition package that brings blacked-out wheels and exterior pieces to Big Horn and Laramie trim levels. Blind spot monitoring with trailer coverage, lane keep assist, trailer tire pressure monitoring and adaptive steering are newly optional on all trims.
Available Trims
Ram offers a wealth of trim levels, including Tradesman, SLT, Laramie, Limited, Big Horn, and Laramie Long Horn. There are regular, Crew and Mega Cab configurations, 6’4” and 8.0’ beds, and a choice of 4x2 and 4x4. Engines are a 6.4L gas V8 and a 6.7L diesel inline six-cylinder, both of which come matched with an eight-speed automatic.
Standard Features
Tradesman trim comes with 18-inch steel wheels, a Class V trailer hitch receiver, vinyl seating, a 5.0-inch infotainment display, a six-speaker stereo, manual 4x4 shifting (four-wheel drive models only), heated trailer tow side mirrors, black bumpers, power locks and front windows (Crew Cab only), cruise control, a 3.5-inch driver info display, air conditioning, a 12-volt power outlet, and Bluetooth.
Big Horn adds chrome-clad wheels, chrome bumpers, cloth seating, electronic 4x4 shifting (again, only in four-wheel drive versions), power locks and windows (all configurations), and an overhead console.
Laramie brings aluminum wheels, heated/ventilated/leather-faced front bench seating, front and rear park assist, LED headlights and taillights, fog lights, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, a 7.0-inch driver info display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather-trimmed steering wheel, a power sliding rear window, a nine-speaker stereo, satellite radio, woodgrain dash trim, LED interior lighting, power-adjustable pedals, a 115-volt power outlet, power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
Laramie Longhorn gains a spray-in bedliner, navigation, leather/ventilated bucket front seats, and a leather-trimmed shifter.
Finally, Limited adds 20-inch wheels, a trim-specific dash treatment, and a 12-inch infotainment display.
Key Options
The 12.0-inch navi display is offered in certain lesser trims, as are power-adjustable pedals. Other extras are navigation in the 8.4-inch screen, a sunroof, passive keyless entry, and an advanced trailer tire pressure monitor.
Fuel Economy
Natural Resources Canada doesn’t track fuel consumption for commercial vehicles, so Ram has not published estimates for the 3500.
Competition
Ram’s main competition includes the Ford F-350, the Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and the GMC Sierra 3500. The Nissan Titan XD is a near-heavy duty truck but isn’t built to match the Ram 3500’s capabilities.
