History/Overview
When Ram introduced an all-new 1500 pickup last year, it carried forward the outgoing model as the 1500 Classic, which sticks around for 2020.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The only notable change is the deletion of the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6.
Available Trims
Ram offers the 1500 Classic in ST, Express, SLT, Night Edition, and Warlock trim levels. Engine choices are a 3.6L V6 and a 5.7L V8. Both come with an eight-speed transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is optional.
The 1500 Classic can be had in regular, quad and crew cab body styles.
Standard Features
ST trim comes with part-time 4WD (when so equipped), 17-inch steel wheels, heated/power-adjustable side mirrors, black bumpers, auto on/off headlights, vinyl flooring, cruise control, a six-speaker stereo, power door locks, A/C, tire pressure monitoring, a trailer wiring harness, and a locking tailgate.
Express adds aluminum wheels, body-colour bumpers, carpeted floors, keyless entry, and fog lights.
SLT gets chrome bumpers, a 5.0-inch infotainment display, a power sliding rear window, trip computer, Bluetooth, and a USB charging port.
Night Edition’s additions are 20-inch black wheels, body-colour rear bumper and front upper fascia, black exterior trim elements, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen.
The Warlock package gets heavy-duty rear shocks, LED taillights, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, LED fog lights, and rear park assist.
Key Options
Ram will let you dress up the 1500 Classic with a selection of option bundles. One of them packages heated seats and steering wheel together. A luxury group gets auto-dimming mirrors, a digital gauge cluster, power-folding side mirrors, LED bed lighting, and a garage door remote. You can also add navigation to trucks with the 8.4-inch infotainment screen.
A trailer towing group has larger side mirrors and a trailer brake controller.
Fuel Economy
Ram’s fuel consumption estimates for the 1500 Classic are 13.9/9.6 L/100 km (city/highway) with the 3.6L engine and RWD, and 14.5/10.2 L/100 km with 4WD. Trucks with the 5.7L engine are rated 15.7/11.0 L/100 km (city/highway) with RWD, and 16.2/11.6 L/100 km with 4WD.
Competition
Technically, only the newer Ram 1500 competes with the latest versions of the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, along with the Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan. However, the 1500 Classic still offers competitive towing and payload capacities at more affordable prices.
