NEW FOR 2011:
- New Boxster Spyder
- Standard Bluetooth connectivity, universal audio interface and floor mats
- New available option packages
- Exterior colours: Platinum Silver Metallic and Ice Blue Metallic added
For 2011, the Porsche Boxster line-up includes a new model, the Spyder, which takes its place as the top-of-the-line offering. The lightweight model is entirely open, with only a small, low-slung “sunsail” soft top to protect the driver from the weather.
Other Boxster models receive standard Bluetooth connectivity, audio interface, and floor mats, and there are four new option packages: a Convenience Package of bi-xenon headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control and Porsche crest in the head restraints; an Infotainment Package of navigation system and sound system upgrade; a Design Package of black 19-inch Boxster Spyder wheels, black mirrors, black tailpipe and interior trim; and a Design Sport Package, which builds on the Design Package and adds an aero kit.
The Boxster uses a 2.9-litre horizontally-opposed six-cylinder engine. The Boxster S and Spyder use a 3.4-litre six-cylinder that makes 310 horsepower in the Boxster S, and 320 in the Spyder. All engines use a six-speed manual transmission or optional seven-speed double-clutch (PDK) automatic transmission.
Features on the Boxster include 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, four-piston calipers with ventilated brake discs, anti-theft system, tire pressure monitoring system, water-repellant front windows, electric soft top with manual header latch, rear window defroster, automatically-extendable rear spoiler, front and rear fog lights, foot well lighting, trip computer, auto up/down windows, variable intermittent wipers, heated washer nozzles, keyless entry, garage door opener, cruise control, CD stereo with audio input, Bluetooth connectivity, two-piece rollover protection, heated leather seats with manual height adjuster and electric backrest, leather-wrapped steering wheel, illuminated vanity mirror, and aluminum-look interior accents.
The Boxster S adds 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, light grey instrument dials and upgraded stereo.
The Spyder adds 19-inch alloy wheels, “sunsail” top on carbon frame, transparent wind deflector, and lightweight sport bucket seats. To reduce weight, there are several items that are not standard equipment, including air conditioning, stereo, door pockets, storage box or cupholders. Most can be added as options, including regular Boxster seats as a no-charge option.
