For 2007, the Porsche Boxster and Boxster S receive upgraded horizontally-opposed six-cylinder engines: the Boxster gets a new, more powerful 2.7-litre, while the S gets a 3.4-litre. There’s also an updated Tiptronic S automatic transmission, a standard tire pressure monitoring system, an improvement to the shape of the trunk, and new optional 19-inch wheels borrowed from the 911 Turbo.
The Boxster uses a 2.7-litre flat-six engine that now makes 245 hp, up from 240 hp in 2006, mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while the Boxster S uses the new 3.4-litre engine, which replaces the 3.2-litre of 2006, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The Boxster can be optioned with a six-speed manual; both models can also be optioned to a five-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission with manual mode.
Features on the Boxster include 17-inch alloy wheels with summer performance tires, electric soft top, side window with water-repellent coating, front and rear fog lamps, heated washer nozzles, power locks, garage door opener, anti-theft system, cruise control, CD stereo with four speakers, electrical seat backrest adjustment, climate control, power windows and automatically-deployed rear spoiler.
The Boxster S adds 18-inch alloy wheels with summer performance tires, red brake calipers, and seven-speaker stereo system.
Always a great driving experience, the Boxster improves for 2007 with its new engines, which provide faster acceleration while returning overall better fuel economy than in 2006. Both models provide superb handling, aerodynamic styling and wonderful engine response; it’s natural to want the S, but don’t discount the Boxster, which displays an almost perfect power-to-weight ratio. Prices drop slightly from 2006 levels, but it’s very easy to send the final tag north very quickly with just a few options.
