NEW FOR 2013:
-All-wheel drive Carrera4 models added
-Targa and GTS models discontinued
Following a full redesign last year, Porsche's new-generation 911 adds all-wheel drive '4' variants for 2013, available in coupe and cabriolet body styles, and in base and uplevel S trim. Targa and GTS models are gone for this year (they'll be back, based on the new-for-2012 design), but the Turbo carries on.
Engine choices in new-style cars are between a 3.4L flat-six making 350 hp and 287 lb-ft of torque in Carrera and Carrera4 models, and a 3.8L flat six in the Carrera S and Carrera 4S that makes 400 hp and 310 lb-ft. With these powertrains, a seven-speed manual transmission is standard, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is the option.
In the Turbo, a turbocharged 3.8L flat six does the work, generating 500 hp and 480 lb-ft, while the Turbo S adds 30 hp and 36 lb-ft to those numbers. Turbo models come with a six-speed automatic or optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, while the Turbo S is offered only with the automatic.
The 911 family includes the Carrera and Carrera S in coupe and convertible, Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S in coupe and convertible, and Turbo and Turbo S in coupe and convertible.
Standard kit includes 19-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, power windows with one-touch operation, automatic wipers with heated washer nozzles, power-adjustable and heated side mirrors, seven-inch touchscreen stereo and USB and auxiliary inputs, Bluetooth, garage door opener, cruise control, power releases for front cargo hold and rear engine cover, floor mats, partial leather-trimmed four-way electric front seats with integral headrests, split-folding rear seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel, shifter and door panelling, bi-Xenon headlights with automatic levelling, LED turn signals, daytime running lights and tail/brake lights, and driver and front passenger knee airbags.
Carrera S models add 20-inch wheels, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and lowered ride height, torque vectoring with mechanically controlled differential, and six-piston brake calipers (upgraded from the base car's four-piston brakes).
Carrera 4 and 4S equipment echoes that of the two-wheel drive cars.
Turbo cars get 19-inch wheels, enhanced stability control system, navigation, and surround-sound stereo.
Finally, the Turbo S is fitted with ceramic composite brakes, steerable headlights, 19-inch centre-lock wheels, and six-disc CD/DVD stereo.
