This next-generation version applies to the Carrera and Carrera S coupe and convertible models. Other models carry over from 2011 and will be updated later. The new 911 models feature new, more powerful engines, the world’s first seven-speed manual transmissions, more rigid bodies, and interiors with styling cues from the Carrera GT. The convertibles use a new top design that retains the typical 911 roofline. The 911 family includes the new Carrera and Carrera S coupe and convertible; all-wheel drive Carrera 4 and Carrera 4 S in coupe or convertible; Carrera GTS and Carrera 4 GTS in coupe or convertible; Targa 4 and Targa 4S; and Turbo and Turbo S in coupe or convertible. All engines are six-cylinder and horizontally-opposed. The new Carrera uses a 3.4-litre with seven-speed manual or seven-speed automatic dual-clutch (PDK) transmission; the new Carrera S uses a 3.8-litre with seven-speed manual or PDK. The Carrera 4 and Targa 4 use a 3.6-litre with six-speed manual or seven-speed PDK. The Carrera 4S, GTS and Targa 4S use a 3.8-litre with six-speed manual or seven-speed PDK. The Turbo and Turbo S use a turbocharged 3.8-litre engine; the Turbo comes with a six-speed manual or seven-speed PDK, while the Turbo S uses the PDK. Features on the Carrera 4 and 4S models include 18-inch alloy wheels (19-inch on 4S), automatic climate control, four-piston calipers with ventilated brake discs, hydraulic power-assist steering, bi-xenon headlamps with washers, anti-theft system with interior sensor, keyless entry, heated mirrors, bi-xenon headlamps, Porsche Stability Management system, rain-sensing wipers with heated washer nozzles, tire pressure monitoring system, three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, on-board computer, heated seats with power-adjustable backrest, storage shelf, lockable glovebox and storage compartment, Porsche Communication Management with 5.8-inch colour display, Bose Surround Sound CD stereo, iPod interface, Bluetooth connectivity, garage door opener, cruise control, illuminated vanity mirrors, black instrument dials, power windows, Alcantara headliner, and automatic extending rear spoiler. The Coupe includes a power-operated sliding steel sunroof, while the Cabriolet adds a power top and safety bars. The Targa models add a glass roof with front opening section and integrated power shade. The GTS models add 19-inch forged Spyder wheels with centre locking, electronic active damping, Porsche Stability Management, dynamic bi-xenon headlamps, Alcantara seat inserts, three-spoke Sport Design steering wheel, 235-watt stereo with nine speakers, and Porsche Communication Management. The Turbo models build on the Carrera 4 models and add 19-inch alloy wheels, red six-piston calipers, enhanced Porsche Stability Management system, auto-dimming side and rearview mirrors, Sport Chrono package, electrically-adjustable seats with driver’s side memory, full leather interior, navigation system, and aluminum-colour instrument dials. The Turbo S models add 19-inch Spyder RS wheels, Porsche Torque Vectoring, ceramic composite brakes, active headlamps, adaptive sport seats with memory, and six-CD/DVD stereo.
