History/Overview
At the top of Porsche’s range of 718 models is the Spyder, which, at first glance, is a lot like the 718 Boxster; upon closer inspection, the Spyder is a different beast, trading the Boxster’s folding roof for a lighter, thinner fabric top that offers a minimal buffer between you and the elements.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
There are no notable changes to this year’s 718 Spyder.
Available Trims
The 718 Spyder comes in a single trim, powered by a 4.0L six-cylinder engine and your choice of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Standard Features
Porsche fits the 718 Spyder with, among other things, partial leather upholstery, a locking differential, active suspension, 20-inch wheels, Xenon headlights, a garage door remote, front and rear park assist, a six-speaker stereo, and Apple CarPlay.
Key Options
To start, you can replace the Spyder’s standard two-way power seats with 18-way adaptive sport seats. Adaptive headlights are available, as are power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors. Navigation appears on the option sheet, along with a Burmester stereo.
On the performance front, ceramic composite brakes are available.
Fuel Economy
Porsche estimates the 718 Spyder’s fuel consumption at 13.0/9.9 L/100 km (city/highway) with the seven-speed automatic transmission, and 14.0/10.1 L/100 km with the six-speed stickshift.
Competition
Shop the 718 Spyder against the Chevrolet Corvette (in particular, the Z06), BMW’s Z4, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, and the Jaguar F-Type.
