NEW FOR 2009:
- All-new model
The Pontiac G8 is an all-new model for 2009. Replacing the Grand Prix in the brand's line-up, it is the largest Pontiac sedan. This is the G8's first appearance in Canada, but a 2008 model was marketed in the U.S.
Built in Australia, the G8 is the first North American application of GM's new global rear-wheel drive platform.
The line-up consists of the G8, with 3.6-litre V6 engine and five-speed automatic; and the G8 GT, with 6.0-litre V8 engine and six-speed automatic. The GT's V8 includes Active Fuel Management, which shuts off half the cylinders under light load for improved fuel economy. Later in the model year, the G8 GXP will be released, with 6.2-litre V8 and six-speed automatic or optional six-speed manual transmission.
Features on the G8 include 18-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, automatic headlamps, keyless entry, OnStar, stainless steel exhaust with chrome tips, remote starter, fog lamps, power mirrors, rear spoiler, speed-sensitive variable intermittent wipers, cargo net, cruise control, floor mats, tire pressure monitoring system, compass, tilt and telescopic wheel with audio controls, front express-down windows, cloth seats, four-way power adjustable driver and passenger seats, trunk pass-through, CD stereo with auxiliary input, 7-speaker Blaupunkt sound system and XM satellite radio.
The GT adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, larger brake discs, limited-slip rear differential, quad exhaust outlets with chrome tips, leather-wrapped multifunction wheel, and six-CD/MP3 stereo with 11-speaker Blaupunkt sound system.
Available options include a power sunroof and leather seats; the GT can be optioned with a Sports Package that adds 19-inch wheels with performance tires, metallic pedals and perforated leather-wrapped wheel.
Based on the Holden Commodore, the G8's styling is subdued both inside and out, which downplays a very smooth ride, a capable V6, and a V8 that can move very quickly into lose-your-license territory. The upcoming GXP will be even more of the same, offering a manual transmission for those who like to fully control the car, along with Brembo brakes, 19-inch wheels, two-tone leather interior and unique fascia with lower splitter.
