History/Overview
The Titan XD is part of Nissan’s expanded second-generation full-size pickup truck lineup. It’s not quite a heavy-duty model, but it does boast more towing and payload capacity than the regular Titan.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The 2021 Nissan Titan XD is unchanged from 2020; this will be its final year on the market as Nissan is dropping all Titan models due to slow sales.
Available Trims
Nissan offers the Titan XD in SV, Pro-4X and Platinum Reserve trims. All come in a four-door crew cab body style and are powered by a 5.6L V8, a nine-speed automatic, and four-wheel drive.
Standard Features
SV trim comes wearing 17-inch wheels, a skid plate under the engine oil pan, automatic on/off headlights with automatic high beams, LED taillights and cargo bed lighting, chrome exterior trim, heated/power-adjustable side mirrors, and a sliding rear window.
Inside, you get A/C, push-button engine start, intelligent cruise control, ambient lighting, six-passenger seating, an 8.0-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a six-speaker sound system.
Standard driver safety assists are trailer sway control, lane departure warning, a driver alertness monitor, forward collision/pedestrian detection with automatic braking, and a rear door alert.
Pro-4X trim adds 18-inch wheels, extra underbody skid plates, LED headlights and fog lights, a power sliding rear window, dual-zone A/C, passive keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming mirror, heated/power front bucket seats, a 9.0-inch touchscreen with navi, and a 12-speaker stereo.
At the top of the range, Platinum Reserve models get 20-inch wheels, body-colour exterior trim, auto-dimming side mirrors, dual-pane sunroof, chrome running boards, 360-degree camera views, power front passenger seat, leather seats with front-seat ventilation, heated steering wheel, and wood cabin trim.
Key Options
SV can add a premium pack with 20-inch wheels, a larger touchscreen, heated seats, dual-zone A/C, passive keyless, navi, auto-dimming mirror, power rear window, and front and rear parking sensors.
Many of the same items are bundled into a luxury package for the Pro-4X model.
Fuel Economy
Nissan doesn’t have to provide fuel consumption estimates for the Titan XD as it’s classed as a commercial vehicle. However, expect it to be thirstier than the regular Titan, whose ratings are 15.2/11.1 L/100 km (city/highway) for base models and 15.4/11.4 in Pro-4X trim.
Competition
Though it’s not a true heavy-duty truck, Nissan positions the Titan XD to go up against the Ford Super Duty pickups, Ram’s heavy duty 2500, and the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra’s 2500 models.
