The Nissan Sentra is this Japanese brand's long-standing compact car model. Introduced in the early 1980s, the Sentra is all-new for 2020 and marks the car's eighth generation.
Available Trims
Nissan offers the 2020 Sentra in S, SV, SR and SR Premium trims. All use a new 2.0L four-cylinder engine; it comes matched with a 6-speed manual transmission in S trim and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in all others. The CVT is also optional in the S variant.
Standard Features
The Sentra S' exterior is dressed with 16-inch steel wheels with covers, LED daytime running lights, and power-adjustable side mirrors.
Comfort, convenience and connectivity items include manual 6-way driver and 4-way front passenger seats, a 4-speaker stereo with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, one USB input, cruise control, power windows and door locks with keyless entry, air conditioning, and front LED map lights.
All Sentra trims also come with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic braking, blind spot montoring with rear cross traffic alert, rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, and tire pressure monitoring.
SV trim adds a leather-trimmed steering wheel, 16-inch alloy wheels and tires, LED headlights, heated side mirrors, premium cloth upholstery, heated front seats, a rear centre armrest, a 6-speaker stereo with an 8.0-inch display, a 7.0-inch gauge cluster display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, three USB ports, passive keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, and remote engine start.
SR brings a heated steering wheel, 18-inch wheels and tires, LED fog lights, a dark chrome grille, sunroof, and sport cloth upholstery.
Finally, SR Premium gains leatherette seating, a 6-way power driver's seat with 2-way lumbar, a Bose 8-speaker stereo, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and 360-degree exterior camera views.
Key Options
When optioned with the CVT, S trim also comes with heated front seats and side mirrors.
Fuel Economy
Nissan's fuel consumption estimates for the 2020 Sentra start at 9.4/6.4 L/100 km (city/highway) with the 6-speed manual transmission. S CVT and SV's ratings are 8.0/6.0 L/100 km, and SR and SR Premium are rated at 8.2/6.2 L/100 km.
Competition
The redesigned Sentra makes Nissan a stronger contender in the compact sedan class, where it competes with the Honda Civic, Toyota's Corolla, the Hyundai Elantra, Subaru's Impreza, the VW Jetta, the Mazda3, and Kia's Forte.
