For 2009, the Nissan Pathfinder's V8 engine, introduced for 2008, has been discontinued, with all models using the V6 exclusively. Other more minor changes have been made to the list of standard or optional features.
Sitting on a fully-boxed, all-steel frame borrowed from the Nissan Armada and Titan pickup truck, the Pathfinder uses a 4.0-litre V6 with five-speed automatic transmission and driver-selectable four-wheel drive. Trim lines are the S, SE and LE, all with seven-passenger seating.
Features on the S include 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, tire pressure monitoring system, heated mirrors, splash guards, privacy glass, variable intermittent wipers, fixed intermittent rear wiper, roof rack side rails, cloth seats, 40/20/40 second row split bench seat, 50/50 split fold-flat third-row seat, CD player, cruise control, auto up/down front windows, keyless entry, digital compass, and security alarm.
The SE adds 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, fog lamps, running boards, roof rack cross bars, heated seats, eight-way power driver's seat, six-CD stereo with auxiliary input, and illuminated vanity mirrors.
The LE adds 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlamps, power sunroof, heated leather seats, four-way power passenger seat, six-CD Bose stereo system, XM satellite radio, and garage door opener.
The V6 has always been a good performer in the Pathfinder and buyers obviously weren't drawn to the idea of a V8, which has been dropped after just a single model year. Overall, this popular truck offers a comfortable ride, along with practicality and true off-road capability thanks to its four-wheel system. There is plenty of room for first- and second-row passengers, although the third row is very tight and strictly for children; the seats fold flat to increase the Pathfinder's interior cargo capability.
