Art2014 100% satisfied, best value for class vehicle December 17, 2017
Overall Score
This vehicle has been totally reliable. Recently brought vehicle in for maintenance check, it needed a new key fob battery which was covered under warranty ($6.99). There have been no service requirements during its 3 yr - 60k warranty. The look and feel of this car are very sporty. Previously owned a 2002 Maxima, so I do believe that I have a valued opinion on this vehicle. I have no plans to trade this vehicle in any time soon. Only minor complaint is that the open sun roof is wind noisy, so I seldom use it.

Issue: This recall is for certain vehicles that had an airbag inflator replaced as a part of an earlier recall campaign. This recall provides a final repair. Long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the passenger-front airbag inflator. The passenger-front airbag module or inflator will be replaced as necessary. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the antilock brake system (ABS) actuator pump may leak brake fluid and malfunction. This would cause the ABS warning lamp to turn on. If this problem is not fixed, damage to the ABS actuator could result in a short circuit. Note: This is a replacement and expansion of Transport Canada recall 2018-486. All vehicles that did not have the ABS actuator pump replaced under that recall require this repair. Safety Risk: A short circuit could increase the risk of a fire, even while parked. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail with an interim notice. A final repair is not yet available. If the ABS warning light stays on for 10 seconds or longer, you should park your vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles or structures. You should also call Nissan or Infiniti Roadside assistance to have your vehicle towed to a dealer for repair. A second notice will be sent to you once the final repair parts are available. This letter will advise you to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the ABS actuator.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the rear view camera system does not return to the default setting when the transmission is shifted to reverse. This could cause a reduction in rear visibility if a driver had previously adjusted the camera display. Canadian regulations require that the rear view image returns to its original setting each time the camera is turned on. Safety Risk: Reduced rear visibility could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the rear view camera.

On certain vehicles, the antilock brake system (ABS) actuator pump may leak brake fluid onto an electronic circuit board, causing it to malfunction. This would cause the illumination of the ABS warning lamp on the instrument panel. If the vehicle continues to be operated, damage to the ABS module could lead to a fire, creating a risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the ABS actuator as necessary. Note: This replaces recall 2016-424. Vehicles repaired under that campaign require a second repair under this campaign.

Certain vehicles may have been fitted with an incorrect Occupant Classification System (OCS) module. An incorrect OCS module would impair the effectiveness of the OCS, potentially failing to properly classify an adult passenger seated in the front passenger seat. This could increase the risk of injury to the occupant in a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace and update the OCS module.

Certain vehicles equipped with Intelligent Cruise Control may have ABS actuators that may have been manufactured out of specification. This could cause the ABS actuator pump seal to leak brake fluid. This would cause the ABS warning light to illuminate, and if ignored, and the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, the brake fluid leak could create an electrical short in the actuator circuit. This could lead to a fire, which could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the ABS actuator, and will replace as necessary.

On certain vehicles, a defect in the occupant classification system could allow an adult sitting in the front passenger seat to be classified as a child or an “empty seat”. This would suppress the airbag, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: For affected Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue and Sentra vehicles, dealers will reprogram the airbag control unit and the occupant classification system control unit. For affected Leaf, NV200, Pathfinder, Q50 and JX35/QX60 vehicles, dealers will replace the occupant classification system electronic control unit.

Certain vehicles may have been manufactured with a defective Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) actuator. This could cause pressure control to be delayed when the Anti-Lock Brakes are activated, resulting in loss of vehicle stability, increasing the risk of a crash causing in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the ABS actuator and, if affected, replace the defective ABS actuator.

On certain vehicles, the passenger (frontal) airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the passenger airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the passenger airbag inflator. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2013117. Vehicles corrected as part of the previous campaign will require re-inspection and/or repair.

On certain vehicles, the metal upper strut insulators may have been manufactured incorrectly and, as a result, could fail. In the worse case this could allow the strut rod to come out of its mounting position, adversely affecting vehicle handling. This could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the front strut insulators.

The die used for stamping the rear suspension subframe was out of specification during three days of production. As a result, the thickness of the attachment bracket for the rear lower link may be less than the minimum specification. This could result in a crack forming in the attachment bracket. If a crack propagates through the bracket, the rear lower link may separate from the bracket. Under certain severe driving conditions, stability of the vehicle may be compromised, leading to a loss of vehicle control. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the rear suspension subframe.

Certain passenger vehicles equipped with an electronic throttle control system. The stopper for the accelerator pedal will prevent excessive movement of the accelerator position sensor. If the driver applies overly excessive force to the accelerator pedal while at the same time pushing it to the right, the pedal can "over travel" due to the design of the pedal stopper. This will cause the engine malfunction indicator lamp to come on and the engine speed to be severely limited. If this occurs unexpectedly, it could lead to a crash. Correction: Dealers will install a new accelerator pedal stopper.
