Nissan added the Kicks to its lineup in 2018 to bolster its small crossover range. This is a charming little utility that will satisfy budget buyers prioritizing space and high-tech content in a tidy package. The Kicks' modest power will never overwhelm its capable chassis, but this is an economy car, a fact reinforced by thrifty fuel economy. The Kicks is also a strong value in a class populated by some big names.
Issue:
On certain vehicles, the compliance label may list the wrong gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) and gross axle weight rating (GAWR) information. This could lead you to overload the vehicle and cause poor handling or a tire failure.
Safety Risk:
Poor handling or a tire failure could cause a loss of vehicle control and result in a crash.
Corrective Action:
Nissan will mail a new compliance label to each owner. If you would like help to install it, you can contact a Nissan dealer to have it installed free of charge.
Issue:
On a small number of vehicles, the warnings reminding the driver to shift the transmission into Park (P) if the ignition is in the "OFF" position and the gear selector is not in the "P" position may not work. As a result, if the ignition is switched off and the gear selector is not in Park, the vehicle could move suddenly.
Safety Risk:
A parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury or a crash.
Corrective Actions:
Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the body control module software.
Issue:
On certain vehicles, the driver-front airbag may not have been manufactured properly. Over time, moisture could enter the inflator and cause it not to inflate properly in a crash.
Safety Risk:
An airbag that doesn't inflate properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Corrective Actions:
Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the driver-front airbag.
Issue:
On certain vehicles, a problem with the torque sensor in the electric power steering (EPS) system could cause a loss of power steering assist.
Note: Vehicles that were inspected under Transport Canada recall 2022-527 also require this inspection. Vehicles that had the steering column replaced are not affected by this recall.
Safety Risk:
A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort and create the risk of a crash.
Corrective Actions:
Nissan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the lot code on the steering column torque sensor. The steering column assembly will be replaced, as needed.

Issue:
On certain vehicles, the rear view camera system does not return to the default setting when the transmission is shifted to reverse. This could cause a reduction in rear visibility if a driver had previously adjusted the camera display. Canadian regulations require that the rear view image returns to its original setting each time the camera is turned on.
Safety Risk:
Reduced rear visibility could increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Actions:
The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the rear view camera.
