In its first full redesign since its introduction as a 2003 model, the 350Z becomes the 370Z. The model is completely new, with a shorter wheelbase, new engine and transmission, revised interior, greater use of lightweight body materials, and new available technology features.
The 2009 model is available solely as a coupe, with a convertible scheduled for the 2010 model year.
The 370Z uses a new 3.7-litre V6 engine with VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift), which makes 332 horsepower versus the 2008 model's 306 horsepower, and 270 lb-ft of torque to the previous 268 lb-ft. Transmission choices are a close-ratio six-speed manual with available synchronized downshift rev matching system, which automatically controls and adjusts engine speed to "blip" the throttle, a system that can be deactivated for drivers who prefer to do it themselves; or a seven-speed automatic with downshift rev matching and adaptive shift control.
The model comes in a single trim line, called the 370Z Touring.
Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, heated eight-way driver and four-way passenger leather and synthetic suede seats, garage door opener, vehicle security system, tire pressure monitoring system, bi-xenon headlamps, LED brake lights, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, Bose audio system with XM satellite radio, cargo cover, aluminum pedals, power mirrors, leather-wrapped wheel with tilt column and audio controls, auto-dimming rearview mirror, aluminum accents, auto up/down windows, Intelligent Key with pushbutton ignition, and cruise control.
Available options include a Sport Package, with 19-inch forged wheels and Bridgestone Potenza tires, aerodynamic front and rear spoiler, larger sport brakes and the SynchroRev Match on the manual transmission; and a Navigation Package, with hard-drive-based navigation system, 9.3 GB Music Box hard drive and iPod interface.
