History/Overview
As its name suggests, the Mini Convertible is a drop-top version of the Mini Cooper, whose styling translates quite nicely to this car’s open-top configuration.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the Mini Convertible gets a styling refresh to match that of the three- and five-door hatchback models, an update that includes newly standard LED headlights.
Available Trims
The Mini Convertible’s entry point is a base model powered by a 1.5L turbo three-cylinder engine, while S and John Cooper Works (JCW) configurations get a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder. Base and S models start with a six-speed manual transmission that options to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic; JCW comes exclusively with an eight-speed auto.
Standard Features
Mini offers the Cooper and Cooper S in Classic, Premier, and Premier+ trim levels, while JCW comes in Classic and Premier+.
Cooper and Cooper S Classic models feature heated front seats and steering wheel, 16-inch alloy wheels, an auto-dimming mirror, automatic A/C, satellite radio, an 8.8-inch touchscreen, and digital gauges. Premier adds ambient lighting, navigation, passive keyless entry, and Apple CarPlay, and Premier+ gains 17-inch wheels, wireless phone charging, an upgraded navigation system, a garage remote, and head-up display.
JCW comes in Classic and Premier+. JCW Classic’s main difference is its standard 17-inch wheels; Premier+ gets performance tires and seats done in a dinamica/cloth combo.
Key Options
A driver assistance package adds active cruise control with stop-and-go, and front and rear park assist.
Fuel Economy
Mini’s fuel consumption estimates start at 8.2/6.2 L/100 km (city/highway) for the 1.5L engine and seven-speed automatic drivetrain, and 8.7/6.3 for the 1.5L/six-speed stick combo.
Cooper S models are rated for 8.8/6.5 L/100 km with the seven-speed, and 10.1/7.1 for the six-speed.
Finally, the JCW’s estimates are 9.6/7.2 L/100 km with that car’s eight-speed transmission.
Competition
