The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class roadster flagship moves into 2016 with relatively minor changes: The entry-level SL550 gets a power increase, and the SL63 AMG can be optioned with a limited Canada Edition package.
SL550 models now boast 449 hp from their 4.7L twin-turbo V8, up from 429; the torque figure of 516 lb-ft remains the same. The SL63's twin-turbo 5.5L V8 generates 577 hp and 664 lb-ft, and the SL65 uses a twin-turbo 6.0L V12 cranking out 621 hp and 737 lb-ft. All engines come with a seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
Fuel consumption ratings are 14.6/9.6 L/100 km (city/highway) in the SL550; 14.7/9.5 in the SL63; and 16.7/11.2 for the SL65.
SL550 standard features include an AMG styling package, 19-inch wheels, sport steering wheel, leather upholstery, LED daytime running lights, parktronic with active parking assist, sport brake system, active body control, panoramic vario roof, navigation, satellite radio, automatic climate control, adaptive high beam assist, magic vision control, attention assist, pre-safe, 14-speaker stereo and ambient lighting.
The SL63 adds a raft of AMG-specific items that bring upgrades to the brakes, active body control system, instrument cluster and seats. There's also a Nappa leather steering wheel, carbon fibre and brushed aluminum interior trim, and velour floor mats. The Canada Edition package brings unique colour options, staggered wheels, and a variety of other trim treatments.
SL65 models get distronic plus, AMG performance media, magic sky control, active lane keeping and blind spot assist, staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, Nappa leather and Alcantara steering wheel, Nappa leather roof liner, and a Bang & Olufsen surround sound stereo.
Prices begin with the SL550's $124,600 and top out at $245,000 for the SL65.
