The largest vehicles in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, the GL-Class SUV, carries over unchanged into 2016. It's offered in four distinct models each built around a different engine.
The lineup starts with the GL350 BlueTech 4MATIC with a 3.0L turbodiesel V6 that makes 240 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. After that, it's gasoline engines all around: the GL450 4MATIC has a 3.0L turbocharged V6 making 362 hp and 369 lb-ft; the GL550 4MATIC gets a 4.7L turbo V8 good for 429 hp and 516 lb-ft, and the AMG GL63 uses a 5.5L turbo V8 generating 550 hp and 560 lb-ft.
All four engines are paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission and, as the 4MATIC label suggests, all-wheel drive.
The diesel is the thriftiest of the four, with fuel consumption estimates of 13.6/10.0 L/100 km (city/highway). The GL450 is rated at 15.2/12.6, the GL550 17.5/13.1, and the AMG GL63 at 18.2/14.0.
