Mercedes-Benz mid-size E-Class is completely redesigned for 2014, bringing only updated styling, and a number of formerly optional (or unavailable) features that are now standard.
Sedan models include E 300 4MATIC, E 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC, E 400 Hybrid, E 350 4MATIC, E 550 4MATIC, E 63 AMG and E 63 AMG S-model; there are just three wagon variants, starting with an E 350 4MATIC version that leads straight to E 63 AMG and AMG S-model wagons.
The E 300 uses a 3.5L V6 making 248 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque; E 250 BlueTEC trim brings a 2.1L four-cylinder turbodiesel capable of 195 hp and 369 lb-ft; E 350 and E 400 Hybrid models share a 3.5L V6 rated at 302 hp/273 hp, and the hybrid adds an electric motor that contributes 27 hp and 194 lb-ft; 350 models get an uprated 3.5L producing 302 hp/273 lb-ft; the E 550 uses a 4.7L turbo V8 good for 402 hp/443 lb-ft; E 63 cars get a turbocharged 5.5L V8 that makes 550 hp/531 lb-ft; and finally, the AMG S-model bumps those figures up to 577 hp/590 lb-ft.
Standard E-Class models use a seven-speed automatic transmission; AMG models get a dual-clutch automatic, also with seven ratios.
Standard equipment in E 250 BlueTEC, E 300 trim, E 350 and E 400 Hybrid trims includes 17-inch wheels, selective damping suspension, electric power steering, engine automatic start/stop, LED headlights, heated side mirrors, navigation, 14-way power front seats, power-adjustable steering column, Nappa leather-trimmed steering wheel, garage door opener, analog clock, steering wheel-mounted transmission shift paddles, three-colour ambient lighting, attention assist, collision prevention assist, adaptive brake with hold function, and 11 airbags.
E 550 trim gets an upgrade to air suspension with adaptive damping and 18-inch wheels.
E 63 AMG cars come with speed-sensitive sport steering, three-stage stability control with torque-vectoring brake, engine auto start/stop, 19-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, intelligent LED headlights, AMG instrument cluster with racetimer, and aluminum shift paddles.
Opt for the S-Model variant and Benz adds a secondary engine water cooler in the driver's side wheel arch.
