History/Overview
Mercedes-Benz calls its CLA-Class a coupe for its sleek roofline, but it’s more accurate to call it a subcompact sedan. This entry-grade luxury model was last redesigned in 2020.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
There are no notable changes to the CLA-Class this year.
Available Trims
Benz offers the CLA in 250, AMG CLA 35, and AMG CLA 45 trims. All three use a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but performance increases as you move up through the range. All variants use a seven-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Standard Features
Outside, the CLA 250 comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated side mirrors, and rain-sensing wipers with heated washers.
In the CLA 250’s cabin are heated/power front seats, artificial leather upholstery, a panoramic roof, automatic A/C, a 7.0-inch infotainment display, a 7.0-inch driver info screen, and four USB-C ports.
AMG CLA 35 and CLA 45 trims gain 10.25-inch infotainment and driver screens, and sport drive modes. CLA 45 also gets a performance-tuned AWD system.
Key Options
CLA 250’s premium package brings two 10.25-inch screens, auto-dimming/power-folding mirrors, blind spot warning, vehicle exit alert, passive keyless, hands-free trunk, and wireless phone charging.
A navigation group adds live traffic, augmented navigation video, and traffic sign assist.
In the intelligent drive package, you get evasive steering assist, active cross traffic braking, forward collision mitigation, speed limit assist, blind spot and lane change assists, and cruise control with stop-and-go.
You can also add SiriusXM radio, active park assist, 360-degree cameras, an upgraded stereo, garage remote, and a head-up display.
In the AMG CLA 35, you can add a driver’s package of 19-inch wheels, Nappa-trimmed steering wheel, adaptive suspension system, and drive modes.
Finally, the AMG CLA 45 offers a track package with composite brakes, race and drift modes, and a higher top speed.
Fuel economy
Mercedes-Benz’s fuel consumption estimates are 9.8/7.0 L/100 km (city/highway) for the CLA 250; 11.0/8.2 L/100 km for the AMG CLA 35; and 12.0/8.5 L/100 km for AMG CLA 45 models.
Competition
Mercedes-Benz’s main competition for the CLA includes the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and the Audi S3.
A Mazda3 with its optional turbo engine and AWD is a compellingly refined alternative at a lower price point.
