For 2007, the C230 Sport Coupe is gone, and all C-Class vehicles are sedans. There are five of them: the C230, C280, C280 4MATIC, C350 and C350 4MATIC. The C55 AMG sedan has been discontinued.
There are several changes for 2007. Across the board, all models receive the Elegance trim level as standard equipment, which includes colour-matched leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, colour-matched seatbelts, full wood trim, body-matched exterior door handles, illuminated visor mirrors and exit lights in the front doors; and all models have a new chrome design SmartKey.
Standard equipment upgrades for 2007 include 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and rain-sensing wipers on the C230; 16-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels, heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming mirrors, garage door opener, split folding rear seats and trunk pass-through with ski sack on the C280 models; and power sunroof, bi-Xenon headlamps with cornering lights and washers, heated front seats, split folding rear seats, trunk pass-through with ski sack and rain-sensing wipers on the C350 models.
On the C230, there is a new $2,200 Premium Package of heated front seats, power sunroof, and rearview and driver’s side auto-dimming mirrors, while the $1,500 Sport Package is revised, with new 17-inch six-spoke wheels, AMG rear lip spoiler, AMG dual exhaust pipes and black bird’s eye maple wood trim in place of aluminum. C280 models have a new $3,500 Premium Package of upgraded driver’s side power seat and memory package, power sunroof, Harman/Kardon Logic7 surround sound system and six-CD changer. C350 models have a new $3,800 Premium Package of leather upholstery, rear window sunshade, Harman/Kardon Logic7 surround sound system and six-CD changer.
The C230 uses a 2.5-litre V6, while the C280 uses a 3.0-litre V6 and the C350 carries a 3.5-litre V6. The C280 and C350 are available with 4MATIC four-wheel drive.
Features on the C230 include a six-speed manual transmission that can be optioned to a seven-speed automatic, leather interior, CD stereo, side and curtain airbags, tilt and telescopic steering column, automatic climate control, fog lamps, heated mirrors, rain-sensing wipers and heated washers.
The C280 adds seven-speed automatic transmission, ten-way power front seats, and six-speaker CD stereo.
The C350 uses a six-speed manual transmission that can be optioned to a seven-speed automatic, and features heated seats, power tilt and telescopic steering column, power sunroof; the C350 4MATIC uses a five-speed automatic and comes with bi-Xenon headlamps.
The lack of the sporty-looking coupe from the line-up will disappoint some buyers (just as the loss of the wagon model did in 2006), but the C-Class still offers a wide range of prices and configurations, including two with manual transmission choices. The available four-wheel drive is perennially popular, especially since so many manufacturers use the term to indicate a system that mostly runs in two-wheel drive; the 4MATIC system maintains a constant 40/60 torque split that allows for both spirited driving and extra winter stability.
