The Mazda6 is the Japanese company's mid-size family sedan. The Mazda6 name dates back to the early 2000s, before which the car was called the 626. Mazda redesigned the 6 into its current generation in 2014 and refreshed it in 2018.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2020, the GS-L trim gets a set of 19-inch dark grey wheels formerly reserved for the GT model, and GS-L optioned with the turbocharged engine gains paddle shifters.
GT trim adds a surround-view camera system and front and rear parking sensors, both of which were previously only available in Signature trim.
Available Trims
Mazda offers the 6 in GS, GS-L, GT and Signature trim. GS and GS-L are standard with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Optional in GS-L and standard in GT and Signature is a turbocharged 2.5L engine, also mated to a six-speed transmission.
Standard Features
GS trim comes with 17-inch wheels, tire pressure monitoring, heated/power-adjustable door mirrors, auto-leveling LED headlights and taillights, an 8.0-inch infotainment display, a 6-speaker stereo with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 4 USB ports, Bluetooth, automatic dual-zone climate control, push-button engine start, tilt-and-telescopic steering, heated front and rear seats, and a 6-way power driver's seat.
Standard safety items are city-speed collision detection and avoidance, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
GS-L adds 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, an auto-dimming rearview and driver's side mirrors, auto on/off headlights with automatic high beams, a heated steering wheel, radar cruise control, passive keyless entry, leather upholstery, a 10-way driver's seat, and a colour driver info display.
GS-L also adds safety features with lane departure warning/lane keep assist, all-speed collision detection and automatic braking, and pedestrian detection.
GT's additions are the turbo engine, power-folding side mirrors, signature taillights, adaptive headlights, an 11-speaker stereo, satellite radio, navigation, a garage door opener, ventilated front seats, driver's seat memory, a 6-way power front passenger seat, a 7.0-inch digital gauge display, a head-up display, 360-degree camera views, and front and rear parking sensors.
Finally, Signature brings gunmetal and piano black exterior trim, a frameless rearview mirror, overhead LED lighting, Nappa leather upholstery, a black headliner, and wood- and ultrasuede-trimmed dash and front door panels.
Fuel Economy
Mazda's fuel consumption estimates for the 6 are 9.0/6.7 L/100 km (city/highway) for the base 2.5L, and 10.0/7.5 L/100 km for the turbo engine.
Competition
The Mazda6 competes in a family car segment diminished in recent years by the popularity of crossovers. Still, some notable names remain, such as the Honda Accord, Toyota's Camry, the Nissan Altima, Hyundai's Sonata, and the Kia Optima.
