This year, the Mazda CX-5 begins its second decade competing for shoppers in Canada’s compact crossover marketplace. This is one of the most stylish entries in its class, combining an upscale appearance and finishes with affordable prices.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2023, a 2.5L engine with cylinder deactivation, formerly optional, is now standard across the CX-5 range.
Available Trims
This year, Mazda offers the CX-5 in GX, GS, GT, Kuro, Sport Design, and Signature trim levels. All are powered by a 2.5L four-cylinder engine; turbocharging is optional in Sport Design and standard in Signature. All-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard in all CX-5 trims.
Standard Features
GX trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, auto on/off LED headlights/taillights, rain-sensing wipers, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, four-speaker audio, Apple and Android smartphone integration, manual A/C, and heated front seats. GX also gets adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and automatic high beams.
GS adds auto-levelling headlights, a front wiper de-icer, a six-speaker stereo, an auto-dimming mirror, power tailgate, leatherette/suede upholstery, power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a heated steering wheel.
Kuro gains dual-zone A/C with rear-seat console vents, passive keyless entry, leather seating, a power passenger seat, and remote-folding rear seats.
GT gets 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, power-folding side mirrors, LED signature lighting, a 10-speaker audio system, navigation, wireless phone charging, satellite radio, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, head-up display, traffic sign recognition, and adaptive headlights.
Sport Design adds surround-sound audio, LED cabin lighting, and traffic jam assist.
Finally, Signature gains footwell lighting, Nappa leather, wood dash trim, surround-view cameras, front and rear parking sensors, rear automatic braking, and driver attention alert.
Key Options
A GS comfort package adds a sunroof, dual-zone A/C, rear-seat console vents, passive keyless entry, 19-inch wheels, and a reversible cargo cover.
Fuel Economy
Mazda’s fuel consumption estimates for the CX-5 are 9.8/7.9 L/100 km (city/highway) with the base 2.5L engine, and 10.8/8.7 L/100 km for turbocharged models.
