History/Overview
The Navigator is Lincoln’s flagship model, a full-size SUV that shares its basic makeup with the Ford Expedition and the F-150 pickup truck. Lincoln redesigned the Navigator in 2018, and after minor updates in 2019 and 2020, it moves into 2021 unchanged.
Available Trims
Lincoln offers the Navigator in a single Reserve trim. It’s powered by a 3.5L turbocharged V6 engine, a 10-speed transmission, and four-wheel drive. At this point in your buying process, the only decision you have to make is between the standard body style or the extended L configuration, which rides on a longer wheelbase and has more space behind the third-row seats.
Standard Features
Navigator’s standard exterior and functional features are power running boards, all-LED exterior lighting, power-folding heated side mirrors with driver’s side auto-dimming, a hands-free tailgate, passive keyless entry, remote engine start, and rain-sensing wipers.
Inside, the Navigator’s seven or eight occupants (depending on options chosen) enjoy a panoramic sunroof, three-zone automatic A/C, wood trim, a heated/leather-trimmed steering wheel, ambient lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power-adjustable pedals and steering column, a universal garage door remote, a 110-volt power outlet, 24-way heated/ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and power-folding second- and third-row seats.
Navigator’s infotainment system comprises a 10-inch touchscreen, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and a 14-speaker stereo.
Safety features at the base level include front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, active park assist, lane keeping system, automatic high beams, forward collision detection/intervention, 360-degree camera views, and tire pressure monitoring.
Key Options
Among the Navigator’s options are a 20-speaker stereo; a rear-seat entertainment system; 30-way front seats with active motion; a three-place second-row bench in place of the standard captain’s chairs; and a two-speed 4x4 transfer case.
Fuel Economy
Lincoln’s fuel consumption estimates for the Navigator are 15.0/11.5 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
Lincoln’s primary competition comes from the Cadillac Escalade, America’s other big, posh SUV. GMC’s Yukon Denali approaches similar levels of luxury. The Lexus LX and Infiniti QX80 are Japanese interpretations of this vehicle class. Germany’s auto industry sends the BMW X7, Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS, while the Land Rover Range Rover is one of Britain’s poshest SUV models. Finally, the Volvo XC90 is less off-road-ready, but holds its own in terms of luxury.
