For 2009, the Lincoln Navigator receives new standard features, and its V8 engine is now flex-fuel capable for E85 ethanol-enhanced fuel.
Based on the Ford Expedition, the Navigator is available in a regular model or in an extended-wheelbase model, the Navigator L. Both use a 5.4-litre V8 engine with six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. Both have three rows of seats and come in a single trim line.
Standard features include 20-inch chrome-plated alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, auxiliary rear climate control, rear load-levelling air suspension, first- and second-row centre floor consoles, ten-way heated and cooled leather-trimmed front seats with driver's side memory, second-row heated leather-trimmed fold-down bucket seats with recline, PowerFold third-row 60/40 split-bench vinyl-trimmed seat, wood and satin-nickel accents, Sync, power sunroof, THX II audio system with six-CD/MP3 stereo, Sirius satellite radio and auxiliary input, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather and wood power-tilt wheel with audio controls, power-adjustable pedals, message centre with compass, auto up/down driver's window, garage door opener, rain-sensing wipers, two-speed intermittent rear wiper, Class III/IV standard-duty trailer tow package, fog lamps, luggage rack with black crossbars, power-deployable running boards, power flip-out quarter windows, power-folding heated mirrors with puddle lamps and integrated turn signals, power liftgate, automatic xenon headlamps, rearview camera, front and rear park assist, keyless entry, SecuriCode keypad, and tire pressure monitoring system. The Navigator L also includes a cargo management system.
Available options include a second-row 40/20/40 split-folding bench seat, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, navigation system with 10 GB hard drive music and photo storage, and a Premium Appearance Package with premium leather-trim seats with contrasting piping and embroidery.
The Navigator is a big vehicle, but while access to the third row of seats is very good, they're a tight fit and more suited to children. The Navigator L includes more cargo space behind them, although their fold-flat capability allows for gear stowage in both versions. The extra standard features should make this even more popular for those who like their vehicles large and loaded.
