NEW FOR 2009:
- Available with all-wheel drive only
- Available next-generation voice-activated navigation system, headrest-mounted DVD entertainment system, and seven-colour ambient lighting
For 2009, the Lincoln MKX discontinues its front-wheel drive version, and is now strictly all-wheel drive. New features include a new navigation system, a rear-seat DVD system with screens mounted in the head restraints, and an ambient lighting package that can be changed to any of seven different colours in the footwells and cupholders.
Based on the Ford Edge, the MKX uses a 3.5-litre V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission. It comes in a single trim line.
Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, EasyFold rear seatback release, genuine wood accents in Figured Maple or Ebony, leather-trimmed ten-way power heated and cooled front seats, driver's side memory, heated 60/40 split-folding reclining rear seats, Sync, six-CD/MP3 stereo with Sirius satellite radio and auxiliary input, rear cargo management system, carpeted and rubber floor mats, illuminated vanity mirrors, auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, message centre, tilt and telescopic wheel, garage door opener, fog lamps, heated mirrors with memory, puddle lamps and auto-dimming drivers side, power liftgate, automatic headlamps, reverse sensing system, perimeter anti-theft alarm, keyless entry, SecuriCode keypad, and tire pressure monitoring system.
Available options include a Class II trailer tow package, 20-inch chrome-clad wheels, adaptive headlamps, panoramic roof, remote starter, a Limited Edition Package with 20-inch wheels, premium seats and ebony woodgrain, and a Monochrome Limited Edition Package, which also adds a body-colour grille.
Like the Edge, the Lincoln MKX is roomy and comfortable for both front- and rear-seat passengers, especially since the company decided against stuffing in a third row of seats. Performance is good, and the ride is exceptionally smooth and quiet. It's more money than its Ford sibling, but this is also a lot more luxury for the price.
