Lincoln MKC
Model Overview
The Lincoln MKC is the brand's first-ever entry in the upscale compact crossover category. As debuts go, it's a good one, building on the well-sorted Ford Escape's chassis with more power, true luxury features and one of the segment's poshest interiors. However, while it's handsome, the look is too traditional to attract the younger audience Lincoln is seeking with this relatively affordable vehicle.

Issue:
On certain vehicles, the battery monitor sensor could be damaged during servicing. If this happens, the battery monitor system could short circuit.
Safety Risk:
A short circuit could create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off.
Corrective Actions:
Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a Ford dealership to install an in-line fuse for the battery monitor sensor. Ford advises to park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

On certain vehicles, improperly tempered bolts may have been used to install certain seats, seatbacks, seatbelt buckles, or seatbelt anchors due to a manufacturing issue. An improperly tempered bolt could fracture and compromise the structural integrity of the seat and/or seatbelt system's performance in a sudden stop or crash, which could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will inspect the bolts, and will remove and replace as necessary. Note: Only E-350 Extended Wagon models with 11-, 12- or 15-passenger seating configurations are involved in this recall.

On certain vehicles, the pawl spring tab in the side door latch could break. This condition typically will prevent the door from latching. In certain situations where the door is able to be closed, the door may be partially latched and could unlatch while driving. This could increase the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant seated next to the door, or result in damage to property. Correction: If a door will not latch, dealers will replace all four door latches with a more robust part.
Note: A door that is partially latched can cause the courtesy light to remain on, set a door ajar message in the instrument cluster and sound a door ajar chime to alert the driver that there is a door latch problem.

On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.3 litre GTDI engine and an engine block heater, due to the engine’s orientation, the block heater could be susceptible to overheating. An overheated engine block heater may result in engine coolant leakage, or heat damage to the electrical connector of the block heater. Overheating of the engine block heater may increase the risk of an underhood fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the engine block heater element with one of a different design, and will inspect the block heater's electrical cord, and replace if required. In the interim, owners are advised to stop using their block heater until the campaign is completed. Note: This risk only exists when the block heater is plugged in and the vehicle is parked.

On certain vehicles, improper nickel plating of certain fuel pump internal components could contaminate the pump, potentially resulting in an inoperative fuel pump. This could result in a no-start condition, or an engine stall without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash. On certain vehicles equipped with Push-to-Start/Stop (PTS) switch located at the bottom of the transmission shift controls, the switch could be inadvertently actuated, unintentionally causing the engine to shut off. An inadvertent actuation of the PTS switch would result in an audible chime through the radio speakers and a "Vehicle Switched Off" message on the vehicle information display. If the PTS switch is inadvertently actuated while driving, the restraint system may not perform as intended during a crash, which would increase the risk of injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM), and replace the gear shift module (GSM), which relocates the PTS switch.

Certain vehicles may not comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 205 - Glazing Materials. Air may have been trapped in the windshield during manufacturing. Over time, this could cause the appearance of defects within the windshield, such as air bubbles, contrary to the requirements of the standard. These defects would reduce driver visibility through the windshield, and could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect windshields and replace as necessary.
