NEW FOR 2015:
- No changes for 2015.
In contrast to its RX and NX crossovers, the GX is a genuine off-roader through and through. Based on the same platform that underpins the rough ‘n tumble Toyota 4Runner, the GX offers Lexus levels of luxury in a package that can take you well off the beaten path.
The GX carries over into 2015 unchanged, following an update last year which brought new exterior and interior styling. Despite the fresh look, the GX’s CV reads like a traditional off-roader: body-on-frame construction, solid rear axle, and a low-speed transfer case are all standard. Road manners are surprisingly adept – the ride is smooth thanks to Lexus’ KDSS system which cross-links the front and rear stabilizer bars; it also affords excellent wheel articulation when traversing rocky terrain.
Power comes from a burly 4.6-litre DOHC V8 engine which develops 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive are standard on all models.
Every GX 460 comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlamps, push-button start, illuminated entry system, 120-volt power outlet, Bluetooth, USB ports, dual-zone air conditioning, power moonroof, reverse camera, power 10-way leather seats with heating and ventilation, rain-sensing wipers, mahogany wood trim, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with stereo controls on a power tilt and telescoping steering column.
The GX 460 Premium adds rear air suspension, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, tri-zone climate control, premium leather upholstery, wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel, navigation, heated second-row seats, a power-folding third-row seat, rear cross-traffic alert, power folding mirrors, and more.
For 2015 the Ultra Premium Package has been renamed the Executive Package. It builds on the Premium model with a heavy-duty transmission cooler, 4-wheel crawl control with multi-terrain select, heated steering wheel, rear-seat entertainment system, radar cruise control with pre-collision warning, around-view camera, air-conditioned cooler box, and different 18-inch alloy wheels.
